Dr. Daovy Kongmanila  

Lecturer, Faculty of Agriculture, National University of Laos  

Dr. Kongmanila received her PhD on Animal Nutrition and Management from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in 2012.   She has over fifteen years experience researching goat nutrition and care and in 2018 received an Excellent Researcher Award, delivered by the President of National University of Laos.

As a lecturer, Dr. Kongmanila is responsible for teaching subjects related to livestock sciences, farming systems and management and research methodology as well as mentoring and supervising student and peer researchers. She also undertakes consultancy work for smallholder farmers and NGO’s.  

Currently, Dr. Kongmanila is leading an AgriFoSe2030 project to improve goat keeping among smallholders for a nutritious diet and increased food security. She brings to this project her expertise in utilising the Theory of Change approach.

Growing A New Leadership Model

In rural Laos, most girls go to primary school in their village. They are expected to marry, have children and care for their families, and many struggle to convince their parents of the merits of high school, let alone university. And so it was for Dr Daovy Kongmanila.

As the youngest of six children, and the only female, the odds were firmly stacked against her.
