Shiv Raj Bhatt
Shiv Raj Bhatt is a development professional providing advisory and managerial services, most often in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), in the fields of trade, industry, investment and productive sector development. He has worked globally, consulting to both government and private sector organisations.
Highly skilled in the formulation and implementation of trade, industry, and investment related policies, Mr. Bhatt also holds significant experience in proposal writing, project cycle management and team management. He is an advocate for inclusive policy making process. He is currently working with the GIZ as a Key Expert in EU - Nepal Trade and Investment Programme.
Prior to branching out as a consultant Mr Bhatt. joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Solomon Islands as a full-time International Trade Advisor, from 2011-2017. He has also worked in various capacities for the UNDP, Government of Nepal (Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies), South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE) and the Institute of Integrated Development Studies (IIDS) in Nepal.
As a consultant Mr. Bhatt has worked with across many countries and agencies including – South Sudan (UNDP), Bhutan (Bhutan Association of Women Entrepreneurs – BAOWE), Tuvalu (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Tourism and Labour), Fiji (UNDP Multi Country Office) and Nepal (EU Trade and Private Sector Development Project, UNCTAD, and Enterprise for Management, Economic Reform and Gender Equality - EMERGE).
Mr. Bhatt completed his undergraduate studies from India (1989) and pursued Masters’ degrees in Economics from Tribhuvan University (1992) and M.A. in Development Studies with specialization in Development Economics from the Institute of Social Studies - ISS, Rotterdam University, the Netherlands (2001).
Mr. Bhatt is the recipient of Royal Netherlands Fellowship (2000-2001) and was also a Research Fellow at the Institute of Social Studies during 2008-09.
A prolific writer, Mr. Bhatt has published many book chapters, research papers in international journals and over one hundred media articles. He has participated in countless national and international events, is a member of Rotary Club of Rajdhani, Member of Paul Harris Society, President of Mahendranagar Jaycees (2000) and Life Member of Nepal Economic Association.
Mr. Bhatt loves cooking, gardening, and playing with kids. He loves to listen to spiritual songs and melodies. He keeps himself engaged in several voluntary services, which reflects his passion to serve underprivileged people in Nepal and abroad.
