Dr Su Su Win

Dr Su Su Win has undertaken more than 35 years of research on soil fertility and fertilizer in lowland rice-based cropping systems, and nutrient balance and management on legume-based cropping systems. Her current focus is on soil analysis-based fertilizer recommendation and development of a geographical large-scale soil database for Myanmar.

In 2005 Dr Su Su Win was conferred a medal for excellent performance in the field of agriculture by the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar (2005) and in 2018 received the ‘Outstanding Contribution - Scientists for Soil Conservation’ award from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

She has worked as a National Soil Scientist with International Institutions including ICRISAT, IAEA, IRRI, ACIAR, Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands, Cranfield University in UK, and Russia-ASEAN projects and participated in the South East Asian Laboratory Network (SEALNET) and Asian Soil Partnership (ASP) of Global Soil Partnership under the FAO

In 2008 Dr Win was awarded a PhD in Soil Science from the University of the Philippines, Los Banos. She obtained a MSc in Soil Science in 1999 and Bachelor degree of Agriculture in 1983 from Yezin Agricultural University, Myanmar.

Throughout her career, Dr Win has published over 50 research papers, several soil analysis reports and manuals. To date, Dr Win has also supervised 6 PhD, 8 MSc and 3 Post-Grad Diploma candidates from Yangon University and Yezin Agricultural University.

Balancing a demanding career, Dr Su Su Win spends time each morning meditating and enjoys gardening and playing with her dogs. She also acts as chairperson of a charity clinic of staff and family to take care of human health in the DAR Community.
